About The Company
I can remember the first time I worked with clay. I took a summer class at Pratt Institute when I was in high school. The course was mainly to learn to throw on a wheel. After the instructor showed us how it was done, we were given a certain amount of clay and a wheel of our own. It was an old kick wheel with a motor. I sat there and started to center the clay and then proceeded to build up the wall of my first pot. For someone who loved to get dirty I was in seventh heaven. This was the stuff I was meant for. The person sitting at the wheel next to me said “how long have you been throwing pots?” I looked up and checked the clock and said “about 5 minutes”. The student in turn replied “no silly how long have you been making pots”. Again I said “5 minutes” looking at her like she was crazy. In total disbelief she said “you must be a natural”. I never thought much about it.
After two years of studying at Philadelphia College of Art, I majored in the Ceramics Department. I graduated from Philadelphia College of Art with a BFA in ceramics. After leaving school I worked for collectible companies, the Franklin Mint, Lenox Collections and freelancing for the Bradford Exchange, Gartlan U.S.A. and many well-known doll makers. While working at the Franklin Mint, I honed my skills as a mold maker. I started doing Block and Case work and then later on I learned to work with Rubber and Resin. Mold making for porcelain requires a lot of skill and knowledge. I began collecting pottery from companies like Roseville and Rookwood. I fell in love with the beauty and tradition of great American companies.
My wife and I collect pottery whenever we go on vacation. We have met a lot of wonderful and inspiring artists making beautiful ceramics.
I started Crown Point Collectibles in 1998 with a desire to carry on the traditions of American Art Pottery. I wanted to bring quality art to the collector who loves ceramics and handmade craftsmanship. I strive to achieve a level of beauty and craft as the many artists that came before me.
